Althea Milk Peel Cream Mask Review

Althea does it again in time for the holidays!!! They kinda know that all the crazy holiday stress is gonna get to us, and we’re bound to have dull and tired skin. So they created their Milk Peel Cream Mask, a washable whipped foam mask that works fast, but helps to cleanse and brighten skin. Let’s go for glowing, gorgeous skin for all our holiday occasions. Shut up all them pesky aunts! No one bringing us down in all the holiday parties that matter!

So yeah lemme review this already…

Packaging and Scent: This comes in a basic box, and the item itself is this opaque white pump bottle. I get the whole milk concept going on, but I personally would like it more if I had a way to see how much product I reaaally have left aside from estimating from weight. But other than that, it’s cute. The scent? Yet again, Althea deliversssss!!! Deliverssss!!! If you are a fan of baby powder fragrances, or shower fresh fragrances, and hated the world for not turning that smell into a facial foam, then finally, this is what you’ve been waiting for.

Product Texture: The moment this comes out of the bottle, it looks like a clay mask, but when you wet it a little and lather it up, it turns into this fluffy foam. It’s a fluffy, airy kind of foam. It’s not a very dense kind of foam like what Japanese manufacturers make, or like those facial foams in aersosol cans.

Hydration vs. Oil: This strips oil away quite well. This is the kind of product that is targeted to give skin a micropeel to get rid of unwanted blemishes (through AHA+BHA), so it makes sense that it also needs to get rid of sebum well. I don’t think this is drying, but as someone who has also used and review their Real Fresh Skin Detoxers, I’d say that the detoxers are more hydrating than this.

Skin Texture Refinement: Given that it’s enriched with AHA+BHA to get rid of impurities (or in other words comedones like blackheads and whiteheads), it does a pretty good job of refining skin, but in a gentle way. It has casein protein, too, so it also keeps skin moisturized alongside providing a peel. I think that this is a sustainable way to slowly achieve poreless skin, because there are plenty of offerings in the market that really get rid of blackheads and whiteheads so visibly, but end up thinning and thinning the skin. But if you really want the whole sh-bam and see more visible results, you will also have to use a complete skincare routine that addresses pore problems. Treat this as your daily micropeel to make your skin brighter and more receptive to skincare, but do not think that this is the end all and be all.

Radiance Boost: Indeed, this is a great way to achieve glowing skin. I don’t know how to describe it, but whenever I used this, I felt like I had a good glow. But it only started to show after a few weeks of usage. Maybe for some it’s instantaneous, but for me, I saw the glow coming along after a few weeks.

Value For Money: Each bottle is Php490 for 50mL, and is an Althea exclusive. If I will consider the fact that it is a cleanser and mask in one, it’s really affordable. But if I will also consider the consumer who will probably not listen to the directions and just lather this on then rinse it off immediately, it’s a bit pricey if you will just evaluate it as a facial cleanser. The pricing will only make sense if the customer really takes to heart what it’s for and takes time to leave it on before rinsing offf.

Overall Feedback: This is a great facial cleanser with mask properties like pore clearing and skin hydration. I really love the fluffy lather it has, and how I can get a good lather whether or not I use a facial brush or beating net. Aaaand the fragrance really brings home the bacon for this one! However, like with the detoxers, I also find the nomenclature a bit too complex. I still get people asking me what the detoxers are for until now… I get that it’s really important to have multitasking products, and yes, this delivers in that aspect. But with Milk Peel as the name, I actually thought that this’ll be a peeling gel. Maybe something like “Althea AHA+BHA Whipped Cream Facial Foam” would have been a clearer way to make the consumer understand what this is. I’m not the best noodle out there, but there has to be some simpler way to express that this is a micropeel whipped facial foam…

My only other note about this is that the nozzle doesn’t dispense product evenly each time, so if you’re the type who really calculates your consumption per pump, this might not be the product for you.

When you use a beating net, you can get quite a rich lather like this. You can use or not use a beating net coz this works fine any way. (Since I always get asked this question, my beating net is from MUJI. Just ask them for beating net and they already know what this is!)

This is how the foam looks like on the face. As you can see, there are like translucent spaces where you can see that there’s foam but yet you still see the skin underneath it. This is what I mean that it’s on the fluffier side. It’s not like the super dense Japanese facial foams wherein when you apply it, it’ll be opaque on your whole face.
