Fresh Sunglow by Mae Layug and Rei Germar Tinted Lipscreen SPF50PA+++ is the ideal choice for those who are under the sun a lot and are looking for comfortable lip products.

This is a gamechanger as this is among the first lip sunscreens in the Philippine market, if not the actual first. I usually see brands churning out different formulations for sunscreens, but everything that has been done so far is for face and body, or sometimes hair. I have heard of lip products with SPF before, but usually, it’s SPF10 and comes off as merely adding the SPF just so the brand can say there’s SPF, even though SPF10 isn’t adequate these days. This is the first product specifically targeting SPF50PA+++ protection for the lips in specific.

It works and feels like a lip balm. It’s thick, emollient, and spreads really easily on the lips. It feels very comfortable and also feels very nourishing to the lips thanks to all the oils (sunflower, olive, coconut) and shea butter. As someone with very dry lips, I immediately fell in love with these as these feel very hydrating and very nourishing. I feel like my dry patches are less apparent with these lip screens.

The pigmentation varies per shade. Sangria and Very Berry are translucent, while Sunkissed is opaque. All shades are selected to give a beautiful beach look and are generally universally flattering. This is perfect for teenagers who are starting out with makeup and developing suncare habits.

Like any other lip balm, this will require reapplication every few hours or so. In my case, I apply lip balm hourly as my lips are really dry, and I also drink a lot of water so lip balms get off easily with all the drinking I am doing. This moves around a lot and will transfer onto mugs and whatnot, so one can really expect to retouch several times throughout the day.

At Php249 for 10g, there is very good value for money as most other similar lip products are usually at 5-8g. Add in the SPF benefit and the nice hues, it’s a multifunctional product that can truly save you money as you’re getting lip balm, sunscreen, and lip tint in a single item. I like the concept and the comfortable wear, and I appreciate the effort that was put into this product.
