Silkygirl Matte Fever Lipcolor Balm Review and Swatches |
I’m sooo happy to be back with yet another Silkygirl review!!! They are really good with lip balms, and basically coming up with products that are cute but practical to use for low maintenance girls. This is not their first lipcolor balm release, as they already have their Moisture Boost lipcolor balm collection. What’s different is that this time, the focus is to have a matte lipcolor balm.
Shade Selection: In other Silkygirl territories, they have 8 shades. Here in the Philippines, they have 4. The shades in this collection are more on the electrifying side, which I think is ok for those who want a lippie that will serve a second job as a tint as well. However, I somehow feel that there is a gap for those who want a matte lipcolor balm but want something subdued from Silkygirl. Maybe the brand expects the people to get their nude shades from the Moisture Boost lipcolor balm collection. I don’t know.
Color Payoff and Pigmentation: For a balm, the color payoff is crazy intense. It’s like a lipstick, actually. Even if the shades are similarly red and pink, it’s easy to spot the differences even at just one swipe. But you’d know that this is a lipcolor balm as it takes quite some time to get the pigments to be really intensely opaque. It’s meant to be intensely colored, but not opaque like how a lipstick would be.
Texture: The texture is thin and wispy, like how a lipbalm should be. You won’t feel that it’s there, actually. You only know it’s there because you can see the very bright color. Some lip balms tend to be hot and heavy, but this one doesn’t behave that way. Despite the formulation being mostly matte, this doesn’t feel hot and powdery on the lips. However, as the formula is not that powdery, while it’s definitely not as glossy as the Moisture Boost range, it’s not 100% matte either.
Comfort: Definitely, this is a really comfy lippie to have. It’s not sticky despite being creamy. It’s doesn’t move around so much that it gets onto your gums, but also moves around enough that it doesn’t feel stiff on the lips. It’s got a mild sweet fragrance which I also think adds to the pleasantness of using it.
Longevity: For a lip balm, I’m highly impressed at the longevity as it leaves a good tint. While the collection lacks nude shades, the good part is that given all of the shades are intensely bright, you can expect a nice pinkish or reddish tint as it fades. Even after meals, it’s not so obvious when there’s product wearing off, especially if you apply a really thin layer. The color pigments have a very good adhesion to the lips. Like other lip balms, if you want to like continue feeling it being there, or to not wear off, you’d need to reapply every 2 hours or so. But this keeps lips nourished and hydrated waaay after it has dried and wore off, if you ask me.
Value For Money: Each 3.3g tube is Php299, which may sound a little expensive for a lip balm off the bar. However, each tube has 1.5 inches of product with a 1.5cm diameter, which is in reality quite a lot of product for just one person. So if you look at it that way, the price is quite sound relative to the actual product. To add, I find it practical to have something for color and nourishment at the same time. So I think the value for money is good.
Overall Feedback: I’m not the type to wear really loud shades on a daily basis, so for the nude shades I need, I still see myself using Silkygirl’s Moisture Boost lipcolor balms more often. However, I like the texture of this balm, as well as the nourishment it gives. I also do think that for a lot of girls who are looking for something practical as both a tint and balm for everyday, this is something that they should definitely try.
