Silkygirl Matte Junkie Lip Cream Review and Swatches

Hooray for another Silkygirl review! The last time I wrote a review for a Silkygirl prodcuct line was quite a long time ago, so I’m happy to be back with yet another review. Today’s review is about their Matte Junkie Lip Creams.

Shade Selection: Depending on which Southeast Asian country you live in, the shades go from 5-12. But all of the shades, as with any other Silkygirl release, work well on Southeast Asian skin tones. Even the shades that might be too bright on deep skin tones work with no problems as they have the undertones right every single time. For the shades available in the Philippines, I think it’s enough as a start as they brought in 3 nude shades already, and most of the time, people would also just be looking for nude or MLBB shades.

Color Payoff and Pigmentation: To be fair, as these are liquid lipsticks, the pigmentation is good and it’s easy to get the colors to show up. The colors are also pigmented enough that the differences between the three nude shades are easy to spot. But under harsh photography lighting, the colors do tend to look a bit pale. This is great for daily selfies, but probably not the top of mind choice for a legit photoshoot in studio lighting.

Texture: As the name implies, it’s a creamy formulation, although not as mousse-ey as what other lip creams. Something that sets this apart from other liquid lipsticks is that this quickly dries into fully dry. It dries within seconds, and when it does, there is absolutely no sticky feeling at all. It’s kiss proof and smudge proof when dry. Also, it’s lightweight and doesn’t feel hot nor heavy on the lips, unlike other liquid lipsticks. But, as the formula dries to a complete dry, expect this to not be very forgiving on dry patches and cracks on the lips.

Comfort: These are really comfy, as there is absolutely no sticky feeling at all. It also feels powdery and velvety when you rub your lips once it is dry. Even if the formula is luxuriously creamy when wet, it is thin and wispy once dried. Even though I have super dry lips, I never felt that this was drying at all. The best part is that when you rub your lips, it doesn’t flake off! I especially liked this amongst my other liquid lipsticks as it is noticeably more comfortable than other brands.

Longevity: This doesn’t last very long on the lips, so you’d really need to reapply often. Like assuming you will not eat nor drink anything at all, you’d still need to reapply this after every 2-3 hours or so, if you’re conscious, as it wears off on its own. If you are going to eat, you’d really need to retouch after every single meal.

Value For Money: Each 5.8mL tube is Php299, which I think sounds normal for drugstore liquid lipstick these days. I also think that the portions are generous at 5.8mL, so even if you ought to reapply this often, the generous amount makes up for it.

Overall Feedback: As with other Silkygirl releases, the shades are really pretty and are very flattering. I’m also highly impressed by the comfortably dry texture of this liquid lipstick. Despite it not lasting for a long time, the satisfaction I get by it not being sticky or annoying really makes up for things.
